| | Pride Month 2025 is in full swing, and we’re inviting you to join us at this year’s Pride march in London on 5 July. This is a powerful moment for us to stand together in support of the LGBTQIA+ community, celebrate our vibrant Pride Network and show that our commitment to beating cancer means beating it for everyone. Whether you identify as LGBTQIA+ or an ally, you’re warmly invited to participate. Pride is also about sharing the day with those who matter most, so space permitting, friends, family and loved ones are welcome to join us on the march too. Please register your interest by tomorrow, Friday 13 June. |

Your voice matters: key findings from our research workforce survey
Thank you to everyone who took part in our research workforce survey. Your insights are invaluable in helping us better understand your priorities and the key challenges you face when conducting research. Encouragingly, 76% of respondents agreed that the UK remains a global leader in life sciences research. However, access to data continues to be a significant hurdle, with six in ten participants reporting difficulties in obtaining the data they need. Data skills were also highlighted as a major gap in the sector, alongside expertise in bioinformatics, genomics and artificial intelligence. By taking part in surveys like this, you help us communicate the most pressing needs in cancer research to the government and influence initiatives such as the National Cancer Plan, which we’ve actively called for.

The stellar mission taking on cellular plasticity in bowel cancer
The same two drugs have been used in advanced bowel cancer for 25 years. So, why has this disease remained stubbornly resistant to the kind of targeted therapies that have transformed treatment in other cancers? One team think that cellular plasticity is key to finding the answer. CRC-STARS co-lead Simon Leedham says, “It transpires that multiple populations of cells are capable of behaving like stem cells. So, it was logical to ask, do those populations exist in cancer? And lo and behold, we found they do. But what’s physiological in regeneration becomes pathological in cancer." Find out why the CRC-STARS collaboration is set to teach us more about human bowel cancer responses than ever before.

Maximise the impact of patient data with PPIE
One of the major challenges with research is building and maintaining public trust in the responsible and secure use of their data. Join our webinar on 16 July from 12 pm to learn how to effectively involve and engage people affected by cancer and members of the public in your research. If done correctly, you can build vital trust and transparency in how patient data is used and reused in research and improve the quality and relevance of your work. Matt Howard-Murray, Public Involvement Lead of our Research Data Strategy, Harriet Unsworth, lead of our public involvement and diversity data community and Jo Gumbs and Chris Carrigan from use MY data will be on hand to answer your questions.
