Archive Storage Flexibility and Tiering with P5 Data Mover

In this article, Archiware's David Fox provides insights on the process of migrating archive data between different types of storage using the P5 Data Mover. This HSM-like extension offers flexibility for any storage strategy. Data can easily be migrated or copied between storage tiers. This way, users can automatically move data from hot storage to cold storage and in any direction they need.

Register for the P5 Reseller Training

On Wednesday, May 24th, our U.K. distributor JPY be running one of their helpful in-person P5 reseller technical training days. Open and free-of-charge to all of JPY resellers, the session will provide detailed insight into the entire product platform, including install, setup, and media archive to LTO and cloud storage.

The day will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Glenmore House in Surbiton, Surrey with available parking or easy access from London Waterloo station. Lunch and refreshments are included. Join JPY to learn, ask questions, and get to know them better.

Deploying P5 in the Cloud

Archiware has flexible support for a variety of cloud storage services in both the Backup and Archive modules. Those wishing to run cloud-based instances of Archiware P5 can log in to Amazon Web Services and easily deploy Archiware's Linux-based AMI. Included is an Archiware P5 version 7 installation, which can be set up in minutes.

No additional physical server is required on premises. The P5 server is located at AWS and is activated at the AWS Marketplace by Amazon. The image is pre-configured and contains all that is needed.

After entering the license, this P5 server behaves like a local machine and can connect to any cloud storage, whether Amazon or otherwise. This means increased flexibility and attractive price ranges when using Backblaze B2, Wasabi or any other cloud storage.

Login is possible from anywhere. Local machines can act as clients to be a data source for Backup and Archive. Any computer can log in to browse and search the Backup and Archive. Just bring your own license to enter it into the P5 server at AWS.
