The Sephardic Roots of Israeli Cuisine

We're thrilled to partner with JArts Boston on their Taste of Israel festival.

You simply can’t understand Israeli cuisine without understanding Sephardic cooking.

Join Hélène Jawhara Piñer as she cooks from her critically acclaimed 2021 cookbook, "Sephardi: Cooking the History. Recipes of the Jews of Spain and the Diaspora, from the 13th Century to Today” and joins in conversation with Forward National and Food Editor Rob Eshman.

You will learn to recreate the magic of adefina, the Sephardic Shabbat stew (like cholent, but with flavor!) and we will explore the wonders of pomegranate juice, from the ancient texts of Maimonides to the streets of Tel Aviv.

Digitizing History: Bringing Lower East Side tenements to life for 21st century audiences

Join the Forward for a special conversation in partnership with the Washington Post and the Tenement Museum and learn about the Jewish American story like you've never seen it before.

The storied museum and newspaper teamed up in December for an interactive essay that transports readers to a Lower East Side tenement. Hear from Philip Kennicott, a Pulitzer-winning art and architecture critic; Jenna Pirog, deputy editor for strategic initiatives at the Washington Post, who led the Lede Lab team that designed and developed the Tenement Museum project; Dr. Annie Polland, Tenement Museum president; and Chana Pollack, the Forward's archivist.

Forward editor-in-chief Jodi Rudoren will moderate a conversation that will give a behind-the-scenes look into how the project was created, how new technologies are being harnessed to transform storytelling, and what this might mean for preserving and sharing Jewish history.

Jonathan Greenblatt in conversation with Jodi Rudoren

In It Could Happen Here: Why America Is Tipping from Hate to the Unthinkable―And How We Can Stop It, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt sounds an alarm, warning that this age-old trend is gathering momentum in the U.S., as we recently saw in Colleyville, Texas—and that violence on an even larger, more catastrophic scale could be just around the corner if we don’t act now.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Drawing on ADL’s experience in fighting hate through investigative research, education programs, and legislative victories as well as his own personal insights, Greenblatt offers a primer on how we—as individuals, organizations, and as a society—can strike back against hate and uphold principles of tolerance, civility, and inclusion in the face of rising bigotry.

Greenblatt will be in conversation with Jodi Rudoren, the editor-in-chief of the Forward.
