Atelier Beside the Sea is taking part in the Homeward Bound Festival, taking place at sites across The Living Coast on the 2nd & 3rd October 2021.  It's a celebration of the fishing and maritime industries, as well as the region's rich folk music tradition and ocean-bound cultural heritage.

We are running a range of workshops across both days suitable for adults and kids alike all inspired by theme of the Homeward Bound Festival.  These workshops have an early bird booking for the next two weeks, ending 15th September.
MAKE YOUR OWN SOU'WESTER HAT
Welcome to a swashbuckling sou’wester hat making workshop for all those sailors out there!  Come and spend the morning with Diana Uprichard of DOLLY clothing to make the ultimate in weather proof headgear – with a large brim to keep the splashes off your face and to stop the water trickling down your neck on a rainy day.  Saturday 2nd October 10.00 - 13.00.

CONNECTING WITH THE COAST WITH PRINTMAKING, DRAWING & MARK MAKING
This workshop is perfect for any ability as it is all about working on your own approach to creating stunning artworks inspired by the beautiful south coast and all that it brings.  Exploring a wealth of techniques in just three hours, you will take rubbing from boats and rope, rusty machinery, wood and walls to create different collage papers. Saturday 2nd October 14.00 - 17.00.

MAKE YOUR OWN PRINTED SEASIDE POSTCARDS
Everybody loves a bit of vintage British seaside heritage. The sticks of rock, sandcastles, ice-creams and of course, the Great British Seaside Postcard. This is the theme of our Printed Seaside Postcards workshop – be inspired by the beautiful surroundings of our beach front location and spend the morning making carved lino printing blocks to make a selection of hand printed postcards to send to all of your friends and family.  Sunday 3rd October 10.00 - 13.00.

MAKE YOUR OWN SILVER WRAP AROUND RING
Enjoy the satisfaction of making something for yourself that can be worn every day with this silver wrap around ring workshop. Starting from a piece of sheet sterling silver you will learn how to cut, shape, form and texture metal to create a special piece of jewellery.  Recreating the textures from shells, pebbles and our wonderful coastal views out of the workshop, Laila Smith will expertly guide you through the process one step at a time.  Sunday 3rd October 14.00 - 17.00.

Join jeweller Laila Smith on this course that will introduce you to the many fundamental skills in jewellery making. Whilst creating beautiful, unique jewellery you will learn about techniques such as forming, shaping, texturing and soldering metal during this 10 week course.

MARK MAKING WITH HAND MADE BRUSHES

This exciting course will appeal to anyone who is interested in exploring the diversity, energy and language of mark making through creative brush making.

Using found, unusual and meaningful materials to create your own set of beautiful handmade brushes and tools to work with you will spend the day with Suzi who will take you on a journey of discovery, recording your first marks on what will become your own paper scroll.
