Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Juan Williams

Juan Williams dropped the mic during a discussion on The Five over allegations by Tony Bobulinski against Hunter Biden and former Vice President Joe Biden.

Co-host Kennedy analogized the claims with the charges against President Donald Trump that led to his impeachment nearly a year ago.

“If Tony Bobulinski is saying Hunter Biden knew about all of this, if any of that is minutely proven and Joe Biden took a dime from any of that, then why wouldn’t you, if you are using the same threshold and the same standard, why would you not impeach Joe Biden?” Kennedy asked. “That is why you have to be careful with these things, because at some point, the entire script will inconveniently flip.”

“Yes, impeachment is contagious,” Greg Gutfeld added. “Juan, why don’t the Republicans start pre-emptive impeachment on Joe Biden, in case he wins? They could start it tomorrow, what do you think?”

“I think that is a great show, that’s a great show, we should put that one up there, as an idea, I’m sure it would get primetime,” Williams said. “You know, for me the bottom line here is conspiracy theories are very entertaining, including a possible impeachment hearing before the man’s elected. But I would say, how credible is this guy? I just don’t know.”

Williams brought up a report by New York Times‘ Ben Smith on the how the story, published at the New York Post, became a story. “Somebody at a credible newspaper, our own parent company, that reporter not only listened to him, but went through the documents and came to conclusion that Joe Biden did nothing wrong, no money changed hands to the Bidens.”

“I think, this just isn’t credible,” Williams said. He then laid into it, which was great TV and example of collegial debate many of the show's viewers come for.

MEDIA LOSER:
'Anonymous'

The identity of the secret White House insider who published first a bombshell New York Times column and then a book decrying the administration of President Donald Trump is no longer secret: it's former Department of Homeland Security chief of staff Miles Taylor.

It was not a triumphant coming out.

Disappointed by the reveal, pundits and journalists took to Twitter to bash the news

Naturally, Trump, too, went after him, albeit dismissively.

Then people started sharing articles Taylor had written under his own name, and videos of him flat-out lying about being anonymous on air on CNN, where he is a contributor.

And the day culminated with his being sort of raked over the coals by CNN's own Chris Cuomo, who asked why CNN should keep him on the payroll. Which so far they still are.

Still, Cuomo let Taylor go on at length about his Trump criticisms anyway. The New York Times has made no correction or retraction of their build-up that Taylor was some critical high level piece of the Trump puzzle (though the Washington Post sort of called out that tidbit.) Still, not all bad news. Or at least, not all bad news for the outlets that carried and continue to carry Taylor's work.

The need for anonymity has not yet been explained. Considering that Taylor was writing under his own name saying the same things, and then on air as a CNN contributor, there's a lot left to be explained.

But as far as his notoriety and hero status, it seems Taylor's ship has sailed without him. As anonymous, he was a somebody. As somebody, he's quickly becoming just another anonymous face.

The A-Block

Ummm

MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd tried to demonstrate that there are very fine questions on both sides when he asked whether former Vice President Joe Biden is hurting himself politically by taking the coronavirus pandemic “too seriously.”

During a segment on the most recent edition of MTP Live, Todd hosted DailyKos founder Markos Moulitsas and Republican operative Michael Steele to talk Covid politics.

“Interesting when you look at both candidates, in some ways one not taking the virus seriously enough at all,” he said referring to Trump, "and one, if there’s a criticism, might be, is he taking it too seriously, at least when it comes to campaigning?”

Moulitsas let out a visible laugh. It was an... uhm, interesting take

Twitter was less reserved.

Twitter

On Thursday, Twitter added a warning label to, and then removed, a tweet from Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in which he said Muslims had a “right to be angry and kill millions of French people.”

Also today, Twitter suspended the account of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan for praising the border wall with Mexico, telling the border chief it amounted to “hateful conduct.”

'Very smart politically'

President Trump privately supported closing down the economy as a response to the coronavirus, son-in-law and senior White House adviser Jared Kushner said in a newly-released taped interview with Bob Woodward, but wanted the credit when it reopened.

FIVE DAYS OUT

With just 5 DAYS to go until Election Day, the lead remains with the challenger but the gaps, and the margins for error, are hot topics.

HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE POLLS TODAY.

Cutler

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler announced his endorsement of President Donald Trump on Instagram Thursday morning — stressing that he never doubted who he was going to support.

Biden

Jim Biden, the brother of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, refused to speak with reporters who appeared at his house and tried to question him about his family’s business dealings.

Fox News reporters gathered outside of Jim Biden’s home on the Eastern Shore and asked him questions after he pulled into his driveway. As Biden got out of his truck and walked towards his door, he was asked why his brother was involved “in your China deal.”

‘Put Him in Jail’

President Donald Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani went off the deep end during an interview with Sinclair’s Eric Bolling, accusing Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey of “covering up child pornography” for Hunter Biden.

There is too much to even summarize. This was way off the Richter scale.

Must See Clip

‘CNN Sucks!’

CNN’s Jim Acosta posted disturbing video of a maskless Trump throng jeering him as he put on a Covid mask to do a live shot on Wednesday, chanting “CNN Sucks!” and other indecipherable screams.

In the video, Acosta is adjusting his Covid mask and his earpiece as the crowd surrounds the press pen venting spleen and droplets in his direction.

It's a pretty ugly scene.
