Winner of the 1st stage in Landerneau, Julian Alaphilippe is the first Yellow Jersey holder of the Tour de France 2021. It has been 20 years since the last time a French rider took the first Yellow Jersey of a Tour de France: Christophe Moreau, 2001, Dunkirk.

Demi Vollering (SD Worx) won the 8th edition, held between Brest and Landerneau. It was the final running of the race before its replacement by the Tour de France Femmes powered by Zwift next year.
Vollering outsprinted Dane Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig (FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope) and fellow Dutch rider Marianne Vos (Jumbo–Visma) at the summit of the Côte de la Fosse aux Loups.
