Last month, National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu approved more than $82 million to fund local arts projects across the country in the NEA’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017. Celebrity Series is honored to have received an Art Works award of $15,000, renewing the NEA's support for our Neighborhood Arts program.
Now entering its sixth season, Neighborhood Arts draws deeply on partnerships with Boston-area artists and community organizations to activate six Boston neighborhoods – Dorchester, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Roslindale, Roxbury, and the South End – with a rich and varied array of opportunities. This season's activities include free public concerts, artist residencies with youth ensembles, and interactive workshops at venues such as community centers, churches, schools, and Boys & Girls Clubs — all through collaboration with a diverse and talented group of local performing artists experienced in engaging young people. Sharing the joy of live performance lies at the heart of Neighborhood Arts, and deep community partnerships and artist-driven collaboration shape the program each season.
