WATCH THE LATEST INSTALLMENT IN OUR 'CANCER CONVERSATIONS' SERIES
In our ‘Cancer Conversations’ series, people with a personal experience of cancer, either themselves or through a loved one, chat with some of our amazing cancer researchers.
With World Head & Neck Cancer Day taking place on July 27th, Niamh Dobbs O’Reilly, who received a diagnosis of Glioblastoma (a type of brain cancer), chatted to PhD student Patricia Flynn and Dr. Collette Hand of University College Cork about her Glioblastoma diagnosis and the research that they are carrying out into this form of cancer.
In this video, Niamh tells us about the importance of knowing that there is ongoing research into Glioblastoma and the hope that this gives to people. Patricia explains her research project on retinoic acid, a chemical compound produced in our bodies from vitamin A, and its role in influencing the growth of Glioblastoma.
A huge thank you to the fantastic 1,200 cyclists who completed the 170KM Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle for team Breakthrough Cancer Research on July 1st. In the pursuit of better outcomes for all, and in memory of loved ones who are no longer with us, here’s to all the amazing cyclists, volunteers and supporters who turned out in their droves, and to the power of the collective determination to Make More Survivors.
While the final figure is still being calculated for the total funds raised, we are thrilled to report that from your incredible support and fundraising you have helped us raise well over €200,000, which is truly incredible.
The funds raised for the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle this year are being used to fund two new projects - one in oesophageal cancer (click here for more information) and the other focused on breast cancer (click here for details), so these incredible funds raised will be put to great use immediately. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for making this research possible.
From the high of captaining the Ireland Under-19 team to the UEFA European semi-final to just weeks later being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, cancer survivor Chloe Mustaki shares her inspiring story.
Currently representing the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Football Team at the FIFA World Cup, Chloe tells us about her journey as a hugely successful football player, the affects her cancer diagnosis had on her life and career, and speaks about her determination and resilience to get back on the pitch to the career she loves.
As someone who embodies our mission and values, we are extremely honoured and proud to have Chloe as a Breakthrough Cancer Research Ambassador - #TeamBreakthrough
We are excited to announce that our annual National Street Collection will be taking place this September 21st & 22nd, in the lead up to World Cancer Research Day.
As you know, we are 100% funded by the generosity of the public, so to be able to take to the streets of Ireland for our national fundraising drive is really special. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet and chat to members of the public who our research is helping and importantly, to raise the vital funds we need to continue our research finding new, better, kinder and smarter treatments for people with cancer.
However we can't do it alone, we need your help! Would you, your company or anyone you know be interested in helping us raise funds for vital cancer research? We are looking for volunteers on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd of September at locations across the country. If you think you could spare a few hours, we would be so grateful.
Please contact Mary on 021 422 6655 or mary@breakcancer.ie to get involved or for more information.
