Film and Discussion: Forbidden City: The Great Within

Grand Illustrated Lecture and Magic Lantern Show

Tuesday, June 13, 6–7:30pm
Menschel Hall, Lower Level

Learn about the magic lantern—a 17th-century device that can project images on a wall or screen—and enjoy an actual magic lantern show given by collector Richard Balzer. Extraordinary images from hand-painted glass slides will be projected onto a 40-foot screen by a 19th-century magic lantern. More



Archives Open House: Persian Art at the Fogg Museum, 1900–1950

Cambridge Open Archives

The Harvard Art Museums Archives is participating in Cambridge Open Archives, an annual event that offers the rare chance to visit a number of unique archives and collecting agencies in Cambridge. Staff from the Harvard Art Museums Archives will present archival materials based on this year’s theme, “Living and Dying in Cambridge.” More



Materials Lab Workshop: Shaping Chinese Jun Ware

Tuesday, June 27, 1–4pm
Materials Lab, Lower Level

After viewing relevant works in the galleries and in the Art Study Center, participants will be able to form their own planter, based on a ceramic flowerpot in our Jun ware exhibition. More
