Due to popular demand, we've added another Tinkering School Summer Camp for kids 9-13 years to learn woodworking skills! This camp will run from July 29th to August 2nd.

Repair Cafés aim to reduce landfill waste by fixing items, teaching new skills, and building community! Our fixers and menders will be sharing their knowledge and skills around fixing everything from torn clothing to bike repairs to the wiring in your favourite lamp.

Introduction to Working a Lathe

You will try your hand at on spindle turning to produce a wooden Scottish tool used to stir porridge and soups, known as a "spurtle". This workshop has very limited space to ensure each participant can refine their skills. 

Topics covered include: safety, lathes, mounting wood on a lathe, as well as various tools and their use.

Workspace Safety 101 & 201 Workshops

Introduction to different power tools, including the band saw, mitre saw, drill, table saw, planer, and more! Taking an OTL Safety course is a requirement for anyone who wants to use certain tools in our WorkSpace. You don't have to take Safety 101 to take the 201 course, the main differences between courses is the tools you learn.

Demo Night:
Introduction to 3D Printing

This demo night will give an introduction to how 3D printing works and give participants the basic skills needed to borrow the 3D printer from the library. Covering machine maintenance, setup, filament, modelling software, applications, and more!

Bike Maintenance with OTL + OOGL
Bring your bike, put it on one of our bike stands, and learn how to assess its road safety. We will go over basic tune-up tasks and clean off the cobwebs. We have two bike maintenance workshops on June 13th and 27th. Our June 27th workshop is in collaboration with the Ottawa Outdoor Gear Library (OOGL).

Make Your Own Keepsake Box

During this beginner friendly workshop you will learn about; cutting, gluing, sanding, and applying finish to wood items by using a bandsaw, drills, and sanders, while giving you a solid introduction to tool safety. Both workshops will be taught by Stephanie (she/her/elle), with our June 13th workshop for Women+.

Intro to Power Tools: Make a Triangular Shelf

This workshop is back to celebrate the amazing workshop instructors we've had over our 10 year history. Come and learn with Jake, from Morgan Quality Homes, whose skills and teaching capacity is renowned. You'll learn how to safely use basic power tools, discover their uses, and leave with a beautiful triangular shelf.
