SelectCoder Tip of the Week

Note that when assigning an ICD-10-CM code from category N18 (chronic kidney disease [CKD]) as a confirmed manifestation of diabetes mellitus, the code N18.9 (CKD, unspecified) is not an allowed pairing. Only N18.1-N18.6 may be assigned as additional diagnoses to identify the stage of chronic kidney disease when this is a manifestation of diabetes mellitus.
