SelectCoder Tip of the Week

Cellulitis usually presents as an abrupt onset of redness, swelling, pain, or heat in the affected area. Unless a diagnosis of cellulitis is documented by the provider, an ICD-10-CM code from category L03.- (cellulitis and acute lymphangitis) should not be assigned. If cellulitis is associated with a wound or ostomy, code the wound or complicated ostomy first, followed by the appropriate code for cellulitis.
