SelectCoder Tip of the Week

ICD-10-CM code K22.6 (gastro-esophageal laceration-hemorrhage syndrome) should be assigned only for patients diagnosed with Mallory-Weiss syndrome or esophageal laceration and bleeding due to Mallory-Weiss tears. When esophageal bleeding is documented as due to esophageal varices, assign a code from category I85.- (esophageal varices).
