When a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus due to an underlying condition with diabetic glaucoma is reported, assign ICD-10-CM code E08.39 (diabetes mellitus due to underlying condition with other diabetic ophthalmic complication) and an additional code to identify the type of diabetic glaucoma. The most common type is open angle glaucoma coded using ICD-10-CM codes in subcategory H40.1- (open-angle glaucoma).
