SelectCoder Tip of the Week

When coding toxic effects, first assign an ICD-10-CM code from T51-T65 to identify the substance and intent, followed by an additional code to identify the manifestations of the toxic substance that resulted in the effect(s). If the intent is not documented, accidental intent should be coded. Undetermined intent should only be coded when documentation specifically indicates that the intent cannot be determined.
