SelectCoder Tip of the Week

When reporting CPT code 49320 (laparoscopy, abdomen, peritoneum, and omentum, diagnostic, with or without collection of specimen[s] by brushing or washing [separate procedure]), keep in mind that this is a "separate" procedure and typically a component of a more extensive service. However, this code may be reported when performed independently or when considered unrelated to other procedures performed at the same surgical session by the same physician.
