SelectCoder Tip of the Week

Coders should not assign a code from ICD-10-CM category K20.- (esophagitis) if gastroesophageal reflux is also diagnosed. When a patient has confirmed diagnoses of both gastroesophageal reflux and esophagitis, a code from subcategory K21.0- (gastro-esophageal reflux disease with esophagitis) should be assigned.
