SelectCoder Tip of the Week

If the incision and drainage procedure described by CPT code 10180 (incision and drainage, complex, postoperative wound infection) is used to gain access to an anatomical region for another procedure, it is not separately reportable. However, if the incision and drainage is performed at anatomical site unrelated to another procedure, it may be reported separately with the procedure using the appropriate modifier to identify a distinct procedural service.
