SelectCoder Tip of the Week

Assign ICD-10-CM code I15.0 (renovascular hypertension) when hypertension is specified as due to renal artery stenosis or reported as "renovascular." Do not use a code from category I12- (hypertensive chronic kidney disease) to report hypertension when hypertension is noted as renovascular. This condition is caused by narrowing of the renal arteries leading to the kidneys. An additional code for the causative condition should be assigned.
