When a patient presents with a pressure ulcer that is contiguous to the surface area of the back, buttock, and/or hip, an ICD-10-CM code from subcategory L89.4- (pressure ulcer of contiguous site of back, buttock and hip) should be assigned. The stage of the ulcer should be assigned as the worst stage identifiable (the area of the ulcer which has deteriorated to its worst stage).
