SelectCoder Tip of the Week

Only use CPT code 20816 (replantation, digit, excluding thumb [includes metacarpophalangeal joint to insertion of flexor sublimis tendon], complete amputation) to report the replantation of a digit that has been completely amputated. Otherwise, the surgeon is considered to be repairing bone, nerves, tendons, blood vessels, etc., which each have their own repair codes.
