SelectCoder Tip of the Week

Assign ICD-10-CM code I15.0 (renovascular hypertension) when hypertension is specified as due to renal artery stenosis or reported as "renovascular." Do not use a code from category I12.- (hypertensive chronic kidney disease) to report hypertension when hypertension is noted as renovascular. This condition is caused by narrowing of the renal arteries leading to the kidneys. An additional ICD-10-CM code for the causative condition should be assigned.
