SelectCoder Tip of the Week

Note that when assigning an ICD-10-CM code from category N18.- (chronic kidney disease) as a confirmed manifestation of diabetes mellitus, code N18.9 (chronic kidney disease, unspecified) is not an allowed pairing. Only N18.1-N18.6 may be assigned as additional diagnoses to identify the stage of chronic kidney disease when this is a manifestation of diabetes mellitus.
