SelectCoder Tip of the Week

When reporting CPT code 76942 (ultrasonic guidance for needle placement [e.g., biopsy, aspiration, injection, localization device], imaging supervision and interpretation), the documentation must state that the provider used ultrasound guidance for needle placement. In addition, the documentation must report the findings seen on the ultrasound and what was visualized while placing the needle. Stating "ultrasound guidance was used" is not sufficient.
