| Katie Couric and Kara Swisher Share Highs and Lows of Their Groundbreaking Careers | |
| | Hi all, Lucinda Southern, Adweek media editor here, bringing you the latest digital news Kara Swisher has been covering the tech industry with dogged excellence and insight since the 1990s. The Recode co-founder and New York Times columnist (a publisher, which, let's not forget, has gone from strength to strength and is hoovering up stars from digital challengers) kicked off Adweek’s Women Trailblazers Summit with Katie Couric this week. The two discuss how they got into journalism, how best to adapt to change and what turning points—positive and negative—shaped their careers. A personal favorite quip from Swisher’s talk: “‘No’ is a complete sentence” and it’s one that women don’t use as often as they should. Check out Kathryn Lundstrom’s coverage of the keynote. Elsewhere, Discovery is launching a streaming service, Discovery+ (another plus) in January, cementing its place as more of a fast-follower in the direct-to-consumer subscription broadcasting race. “We are confident that the subscribers we will gain are largely incremental to our topline trajectory,” the company told investors. Whether those ambitions are enough to mitigate the losses of cord-cutters is worth a watch, read more of Kelsey Sutton’s reporting. That's all, but if you can, please consider supporting our journalism with an Adweek Pro Subscription and gain full access to all of Adweek's essential coverage and resources. Thanks for reading!
