SWIFT EXIT: Louisiana state Sen. Karen Carter Peterson, a leading Democrat from New Orleans, abruptly resigned Friday, citing mental health and a long-running gambling problem as she ended her 22-year legislative in the middle of the 2022 session. "At this time, I must place all of my energy on my own mental health and personal well-being," she said.
REPLACEMENT ACT: The Red Hot Chili Peppers have a long and colorful history with New Orleans, dating from a riotous show at the Saenger Theatre in 1989. Their 2022 will appearance will be outdoors, as the band was announced Friday as the Jazz & Heritage Festival's replacement for the Foo Fighters.
URBAN INCURSION: Among the many threats to Louisiana, feral hogs don't usually rank near the top. But they're here, destroying everything from sugar cane to rice to corn, carrying diseases and damaging levees in the New Orleans area.
