I am a painter working in acrylic, oil and gouache. A bit of a world traveler, I was born in Hawaii, grew up in California and Washington, and then lived throughout the US and Germany, before finally settling down in the Colorado Rockies. I served in the Army Medical Specialist Corps during Desert Storm and continued to work as a dietitian and certified diabetes educator in the civilian sector until my transition to full-time painter. Raising my daughter was a highlight throughout this time, which also meant there wasn't much time for artistic pursuits. Although I enjoyed drawing as a kid, I didn't pick up a paintbrush until a spring break painting night with my nieces. I fell in love with the excitement of turning a blank canvas into a world of its own! Now I spend most days painting in my studio (or outside with my easel) in Tabernash, CO. If I can capture a feeling and sense of a place or subject, then I feel I've accomplished just a bit of what I've been put on this earth to do. My choice of subjects is varied, influenced by active pursuits in the mountains of Colorado and the deserts of Utah, my childhood love of horses and riding, and growing up as a rural ranch kid. I have studied with Tim Deibler, Jed Dorsey, Dianna Shyne and Judd Mercer. I'm currently enrolled in Scott Christensen's Adventure of Painting course. I am finding Scott's approach is already transforming my painting process and I am excited to see where the journey takes me as a painter and as a human being. Outside of the studio, I enjoy skiing of all kinds, mountain biking, hitting the gym, hiking, reading and trying to grow whatever the chipmunks won't eat during our very short Rocky Mountain summers!
