The Kate Wolf Lilac

Share your lilac!

Kate’s family is deeply grateful to organic farming pioneer Amigo Bob Cantisano, who tracked down the location in the Gold Country foothills which inspired Kate’s song The Lilac And The Apple and found both plants growing there. Local lore says the original lilac was brought to Goodyear's Bar in 1865 from the Alsace Lorraine region of France. Amigo Bob propagated new lilac plants and for many years donated them at the Kate Wolf Music Festival to raise funds for Camp Winnarainbow.

We are very sad to say that Amigo Bob passed away in December 2020, and we would like to honor his memory by tracing the journey of this new generation of lilacs. If you bought a lilac at the Kate Wolf Music Festival, we would love to know where it was planted and how it has fared – please share your photos/stories on the Kate Wolf Facebook page. For more information about Amigo Bob and his amazing work in preserving heritage plants in the Sierra, please visit the Felix Gillet Institute website.
