Dear Friend,

I’m so grateful for the response we’ve had so far to our June fundraising campaign – we’re a little more than halfway to our goal of $30,000 in 30 days.

We’ve heard from first-time donors like Stu, who shared that “moving to Maine was a very smart decision. Being a BDN reader helps me make smarter decisions with information and insights I trust and depend on.”

Thanks to reader support, we are able to report on some of the most important statewide stories of the day, such as what’s going on with electricity rates and our changing energy grid.

Electricity bills are infamously hard to parse. When rates go up, the reasons for it aren’t always clear to customers. Our recent reporting on rate increases –– which take into account generous subsidies to solar developers and long-term renewable power contracts –– is informing electricity customers, giving them the information they need to have a voice in policy changes going forward.

If you haven’t contributed yet but value the oversight local journalism brings to issues that affect all Mainers, I invite you to join us.

Yes, I'll donate today!

If just 500 readers (about the population of Mariaville, for what it’s worth) chip in $25 each, we’ll meet our goal.

Every dollar contributed by readers goes directly to support newsgathering.

All the best,

Jo Easton
Audience Director
