And Kenner Mayor Michael Glaser, who pulled the plug on the project, has some harsh words for the developer, which said it would build luxury condominiums, restaurants, music venues, a hotel and possible casino there. Animal shelters across the New Orleans area are struggling with a wave of people surrendering dogs that have left them way over capacity. In St. Tammany, for example, the parish shelter has 241 dogs, about 100 more than it's built to hold, and officials are worried they'll have to euthanize dogs due to space constraints.
