The demonstrations and social unrest in Louisville and across our country have caused me to reflect, to ask myself what can I do. I ask personally as a proud Louisvillian, and professionally as CEO of Kentucky Science Center. I must do my part to address systemic racism and to help heal the generations of hurt felt by my fellow brothers and sisters in Louisville, in Kentucky and across the United States. I acknowledge the historical injustices experienced by Black people in this country. While we cannot change history, it is our responsibility to learn from the past and do everything possible to prevent future injustices and disparities. As a team, we stand committed to ensuring Kentucky Science Center is for everyone, regardless of race. We strive to be a welcoming, safe place to be curious, to learn, to know ourselves, and to know others. We welcome all people of all ages on the journey of inner reflection and understanding that leads to stronger community connections and caring for others. This spring when we announced our new exhibit, Uniquely Human, we again committed to making Kentucky Science Center a safe place for all to exchange ideas and strengthen our community. We are listening to our community and are committed to doing our part for reconciliation and equity for all. We are reviewing our practices and policies with a renewed equity lens, and will remove any systemic practices that create disparities. The solutions are not singular, nor immediate, but all voices in our community will be heard. Diversity and inclusion will be realities we embrace with grace, love, and compassion. Join me as we use our love of science to make our world better for everyone. |
