Good morning, everyone. With all due respect to the former LSU players on the rosters of the Super Bowl LVI participants Sunday, it was all basketball all the time Monday. That's not at all unusual considering national signing day was last Wednesday, but LSU coach Brian Kelly and his staff did get some news Sunday. Monday night was a big one for Kim Mulkey's women's basketball team as the Tigers went into Oxford, Mississippi, and took care of business with third place in the SEC standings on the line. With just enough offense and a lot of defense, LSU held off Ole Miss 68-64 behind Khayla Pointer's second career triple-double and a double-double from Faustine Aifuwa. With the huge road win over Ole Miss, which was tied with LSU in the standings, the Tigers (19-4, 7-3 SEC) jumped into a tie for third place with Florida as teams begin to jockey for seeding in the conference tournament. Only South Carolina (9-1) and Tennessee (8-2) are ahead of LSU and Florida going into the final six games of the league's slate. On the men's side, Will Wade's team will try to get back on track when the Tigers visit Texas A&M at 6 p.m. Tuesday (SEC Network). As our Sheldon Mickles explains, Wade has never experienced what he’s been through in the past 25 days — losing six times in a seven-game stretch games — in his nine-year career as a head coach. When LSU fell at Vanderbilt on Saturday night, the Tigers were saddled with their second three-game losing streak in the past month. But there's hope as LSU stopped the first one just two weeks ago with a 70-64 win in the PMAC over Texas A&M, which has lost six in a row after winning four straight at the start of conference play. Earlier Monday, Wade's team fell out of the AP and Ferris Mowers coaches' polls. The Tigers, who were 25th a week ago, had been in both polls for nine consecutive weeks dating to the Dec. 7 rankings. In the women's polls, LSU moved up one spot to No. 14 despite not playing last week. Finally, columnist Scott Rabalais takes a look at the men's recent skid and examines the reasons for the swoon with eight games left in the regular season and if the Tigers have the ability to bounce back. Actually, there was one bit of football news from Sunday afternoon. In case you missed it, former Rummel High three-star linebacker Kolbe Fields, a 2021 signee for South Carolina, announced he'll be coming home to play for the Tigers after seeing action in four games as a true freshman last season. LSU now has 28 signees this year with the ability to sign four more transfers. FINALLY: HERE’S A GREAT DEAL If you’re not a subscriber, come join us.
