Homeward bound: An international rescueIt’s not every day that your dog escapes and flees to another country, but that’s exactly what happened to a pair of dog owners in Maine this year. Normally, it would have been easy enough to follow the runaway pooch and put her back in the car. But COVID-19-related border closures meant that once the dog crossed a bridge into Canada, she was as good as gone. It took the combined efforts of family and friends on the Canadian side of the border to catch the dog and keep her safe long enough for a handoff. Border patrol was even nice enough to let the dog through. Not bad for such a scary situation. Dog owners will stop at nothing to track down their escaped pets.
