| | | As the leaders of Russia and North Korea prepare to meet, we look at what that could mean for the Ukraine war. Also today, someone has damaged the Great Wall of China with a digger, and scroll down for a stunning selection of prize-winning bird photographs. | | Top of the agenda | US concerns over potential arms deal | | Mr Kim last met Mr Putin in the Russian port of Vladivostok, in 2019. Credit: AFP |
| With Russia in need of weapons to support its war in Ukraine, the likelihood of North Korea coming to its aid appears to be increasing. A US official said North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un plans to travel to Russia to meet President Vladimir Putin, prompting suggestions he might repeat a journey by armoured train to Vladivostok he made in 2019. Russia’s defence minister viewed Pyongyang’s missiles in July, and the White House has said arms negotiations are "actively advancing". There's concern Moscow might at some point return the favour by handing over munitions, or advanced weapons technology. But it might be a simple case of arms for food. And a former UK ambassador to North Korea told the BBC Mr Kim is so paranoid, the visit might be cancelled now it's public. | | |

| 'People think I am cursed - a cannibal' | Somalis with albinism not only face a daily discrimination but a struggle to afford the sunglasses and sun cream they need because of their condition. A new group, Somali Albinos, is trying to change that. | | Naciima Saed Salah, for BBC News |

| "People tell me I am a cannibal and that I will eat their children," Elmi Bile Mohamed, 25, says. "They are terrified of me." Mr Mohamed has struggled to find a place to live in the capital, Mogadishu, since leaving his rural home in the central region of Hiraan. He searched for a room in a shared house but was rejected at every turn. He ended up paying $30 (£23) a month to live in a storage shed in Hamar Weyne district, the oldest part of the city. |
