Good afternoon! It's Friday, May 19, and today's headlines include a coalition's letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona over LGBT acts of violence, new state laws regarding body-mutilating surgeries for children, and notable pastor Tim Keller entering in-home hospice care.

A coalition of 72 national and state organizations and 34 lawmakers sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona highlighting concerns about violence perpetrated by trans activists, which the groups said has worsened following the department's proposed changes to Title IX. The federal civil rights law prohibits
discrimination on the basis of sex and, under the proposed regulation, these protections would also extend to sexual orientation and gender identity. The coalition cautioned the move "served to embolden and bolster the aggressiveness of the transgender movement in America," pointing to free speech violations, harassment and acts of violence committed by LGBT activists. identified it as wanted. "Only wanted abortions were associated with positive emotions or mental health gains," the researchers noted in their findings. Read more.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the Let Kids Be Kids bill package Wednesday in a bid "to protect Florida's children" from sexually explicit events and body-deforming procedures. The series of bills included SB 254, which bans puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and castration or elective mastectomies for children. Another bill, HB 1438, prohibits the admission of
children into an "adult live performance" such as a drag show and authorizes the Department of Business and Professional Regulation to fine, suspend or revoke the alcohol license for hotels or restaurants if the establishment admits a child to such a performance. Read more.

Vermont's Republican Gov. Phil Scott signed H.89 and S.37 into law on May 10, making Vermont the latest state to establish itself as a haven for abortion and body-mutilating sex-change surgeries for children. Scott's approval of H.89, which establishes so-called "gender-affirming health care services" and "reproductive health services" as
"legally protected" healthcare activities, follows its passage by the Democrat-controlled state House in a 130-13 vote and its approval by the Democrat-controlled state Senate in a 26-4 vote.
S.37 stipulates additional requirements for state colleges, universities and health insurers. Read more.
