Good morning Voornaam

The big day is here. Polls have just opened as voting begins in the General Election. At The Scotsman, we will have every angle covered and will bring you every twist and turn over the coming days as the political landscape changes dramatically.

Today, Political Editor Alistair Grant looks at the 12 Scottish seats to watch from knife-edge battles to potential upsets. You can find out when your own constituency is likely to declare a result here

This election is the first time most of us will have needed to use ID to vote in Scotland which we cover in our leader column today Political Correspondent Rachel Amery has a guide to the new rules here

Meanwhile, The Scotsman leads today with our exclusive poll on one of the big Labour policies - imposing VAT on private school fees. Find out what the public thinks of the move here

For now, the arguments and debate are over as voting takes place, but we will continue to report on developments at scotsman.com throughout the day. We may even throw in a few pictures of dogs at polling stations.

Then join us this evening where we report on the all important exit poll and cover events live throughout the night. Led by our Westminster Correspondent Alexander Brown, we will have staff reporting from counts across the country.

It is going to be quite a 24 hours.

Have a great day

Alan
