Know your APPs

There are a few things to keep in mind regarding advanced practice professionals (APP), sometimes known as mid-level practitioners. According to the International Council of Nurses, an APP can be defined as “a registered nurse who has acquired the expert knowledge base, complex decision-making skills and clinical competencies for expanded practice, the characteristics of which are shaped by the context and/or country in which s/he is credentialed to practice. A master’s degree is recommended for entry level.”

Full steam ahead for the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact

It has been a little over a year since the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) officially launched its expedited licensure process in April 2017. The compact, which was initially developed by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), began to explore the idea of using an interstate compact for physician licensing in April 2013. The objectives of the compact were to make the licensure process more efficient for physicians who practice in multiple states, while also maintaining the integrity and standards of the individual state licensing boards.
