| Koning Display is out! We are proud to release the Koning Display family. Koning is the Dutch word for “king.” For years, the typeface was an in-house side project we revisited in the brief periods when we weren’t busy satisfying corporate type requests. Time and many revisions allowed Koning to ripen. We even invented new constructions to fine-tune contrast in interpolated weights. | | | High-contrast sans serifs are a challenging genre. Popularized by Hermann Zapf in 1950s with Optima, so few of them look contemporary today. Koning transports the high-contrast sans into the present, without looking as solemn as its predecessors. Unlike most typefaces in our library, the stress in Koning’s letterforms runs vertically, rather than diagonally. Luc(as) de Groot is the lead designer of Koning. He was assisted over the years by Jan Fromm, Martina Flor, Philipp Neumeyer, Daria Petrova, Thom Janssen, and Ethan Cohen. Even in an unreleased state, Koning Display and Koning Text racked up several prizes. We are very honored to announce that Koning is a 2020 German Design Award winner in Gold. Previously, the typeface was a prize winner in the 2018 TDC² competition; it also won an award of excellence in that year’s Communication Arts Typography Annual. | | You can license single styles from Koning Display in OTF, WOFF, and WOFF2 formats. Customers licensing all upright fonts also receive the range packaged in a single variable font. This is also true for the italics. Koning Display is available exclusively through the LucasFonts website. Try out all the styles there! | | Have a look at Koning Display Website update! We launched a new version of our website, produced almost entirely in-house. Customers can now license web fonts just as easily as desktop fonts, and we are excited about how easy the checkout process has become. As our existing customers will already be familiar with – we sell different “packages” for each typeface. While some customers need Cyrillic and Greek coverage for TheSans, others will only use the Latin script, and want Western, Central, and Eastern European coverage ... maybe even with small caps, too. On our new website, you’ll find a detailed page for each font package, illustrating every available figure style, sample texts with and without OpenType features applied, details about each stylistic set, and more. For instance, have a look at the details page for one of our most popular packages: TheSans C4s. | | Visit the new LucasFonts.com LucasFonts is the type library founded by the Dutch type designer Luc(as) de Groot.
