Local dance legends featured in KQED’s Webby Award-winning digital video series If Cities Could Dance will be on hand to teach you some of the fundamental moves of Voguing, Boogaloo, and “Bollywood in heels”! The moves in this short and simple, no-pressure, mini dance bootcamp will be easy enough for anyone to pick up, but more fun than anyone should be allowed to have on a weekday night. Think you’ll need to modify movements to fit your level of ability or just want to watch? We welcome and encourage all levels of participation! We’ll start out the evening with a screening of the featured dancer’s episodes, and end it with a chance to strut your stuff and show off what you’ve learned at a dance party featuring DJ Infinite Jess — who’ll be dishing tracks from all traditions. | | Bay Curious sets out to answer listeners’ questions about our home. One of those questions -- about the origin of the fortune cookie -- led us to the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park.
But what we found when we got there was another story altogether: the garden, which dates back to the World’s Fair of 1893, holds a sprawling family history and is a microcosm for how California has treated Japanese Americans since the 1800s to today. In this walking tour, actress Sango Tajima --aided by Head Gardener Steven Pitsenbarger -- leads us through a theatrical history of the garden, and the people who created it. | | |
