Salami Rose Joe Louis is a cutting-edge Bay Area musician breaking big. One of the must-see acts at last year’s Outside Lands, the Oakland vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and composer crafts an addictive blend of sci-fi-inspired electronic pop and jazz.

She joins Jada Imani and Spote Breeze from the downtown Oakland multimedia art party and artist resource collective SMARTBOMB for a double-bill of music and conversation dedicated to how they build a community of interdisciplinary artists.

Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés presents his new 23-piece big band project, La Creación. Encompassing sacred Yoruba chants, Afro-Cuban rhythms, post-bop and what Valdés describes as “an atmosphere in the style of Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew.” This is a career-spanning masterwork, similar to the music he created in Irakere.
