| San Francisco's Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) will celebrate the national observance of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday as a Day of Service, providing free admission to the museum and programs throughout the day on Monday, January 15.
ITVS and KQED have teamed up to screen the documentary Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities, which explores the pivotal role historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) have played over the course of 150 years in American history, culture and identity. Stanley Nelson's film reveals the rich history of HBCUs and the power of higher education to transform lives and advance civil rights and equality in the face of injustice. | |

| Comedian W. Kamau Bell kicks off Oakland Symphony’s Playlist series inviting major thinkers of our time to host and curate a concert. On January 19, Kamau hosts as the symphony plays his playlist, ranging from Jimi Hendrix and Nina Simone to "Flight of the Bumblebee," and featuring many special guests.
