Activating The Electorate

Activating the Electorate
2018 saw the highest midterm turnout in four decades. But at only fifty-three percent voter participation, the U.S. ranks near the bottom of developed countries. Now America is faced with a new reality that could lower those numbers even further. The covid-19 pandemic has blown up plans for the upcoming election. Fundraising, messaging, organizing, even the act of voting have all been turned upside down. With the 2020 election fast approaching, strategists and organizers are being forced to engage people from a distance while contending with a global struggle of historic proportions. KQED’s Political Breakdown hosts Scott Shafer and Marisa Lagos along with political scientist Lisa Garcia Bedolla and Republican strategist Mike Madrid will unpack the questions that these challenges present. Join us on Facebook Live as KQED explores new ways of connecting with you and adapting our events to these changing times.

Virtual Watch Party
Thursday, April 9 | 7:30pm
Check, Please! Bay Area
Join us to celebrate our local dining culture and the eateries that give it flavor with a virtual watch party of this week's episode of Check, Please! Bay Area with host Leslie Sbrocco. Watch as we check out some tastes at Bay Area favorites PLāYT, Stonemill Matcha, and Xingones, and tell us what you think looks yummy. Then share your questions for Leslie Sbrocco and special guest Darion Frazier, who will join the party after the screening for Q&A. During this time when restaurants and their staffs face the uncertainties of shelter-in-place, consider supporting these local establishments and others in the Check, Please! family by ordering takeout or gift certificates, and help keep the Bay Area tasty.
