Director Niki Caro tells us about Mulan: 'The film needed to be massive - this is an epic adventure'

It might have taken some time, but Mulan has finally made it to the big screen. The Disney film was one of the first movies affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Its 27 March premiere was first cancelled and then delayed multiple times.

In August, the studio announced that Mulan would skip the big screen in the US and go straight to its streaming service. Luckily, South Africans can see it on the big screen from Friday, 11 September.

Twenty-two years after they first told the story, Disney releases the new, epic live-action adventure of the legendary warrior. The film – like the animation – is based on the Chinese folklore The Ballad of Mulan.
