Larry joined the KSAT12 Sports Team in October of 2004, and it’s been full throttle ever since. Whether he’s covering the Spurs, traveling for Cowboys or Texans or in the thick of it with Big Game Coverage, it seems he hardly stops! But we’re giving you a peek behind life as a Sports Guy!
3 Things to Know about Larry Ramirez:
Question #1: What’s the best story you’ve ever produced?
Answer: One that really sticks out to me was a story I did on a young man named Manuel Garza back in 2008-09. He was 11 if I recall right, lived on the West Side, and was teaching kids his age and younger basketball. He was doing this to help those kids to stay out of trouble and for his love of basketball. He was well organized and put the kids through some serious drills. They called him coach which I thought was cute.
Question #2: Tell us about the funniest or most unexpected thing to happen while out reporting.
Answer: Spurs Forward Robert Horry slapped my paper scripts out of my hand during a live a shot at the AT&T Center. He was known for messing with the media. On another occassion Shaq walked behind me during a live shot to get to Greg Simmons to say hello. Shaq stopped and put his hands on my shoulders and because he's so tall his head was pretty much cut out of the shot. The camera wasn't framed for a 7-footer, as I'm only 5' 11".
Question #3: You’re something of a craft beer connoisseur - how did you get into that?
Answer: I like beer, and one day I got tired of Coors and Miller, so I tried some craft beer well before it became popular. I was hooked! My favorite type is IPA (Indian Pale Ale). I have too many favs to list but will say “Pliny the Elder” is at the top of my list.
