Suit alleges harassment in Pa. city police force

Two female police officers with the Philadelphia police department have filed a federal lawsuit alleging they were subjected to sexual harassment, discrimination and retaliation from members of the department. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross Jr., who is named in the suit and accused of not responding properly to the complaints, resigned Tuesday amid the accusations.

Labor Dept. proposes expansion to employer religious exemption rule
The Labor Department's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs has proposed an expansion to a current religious exemption that would allow contractors and subcontractors to cite religious affiliations as a defense in the event of employment discrimination claims. An employer would have to state a religious purpose on its website or advertisements and "exercise religion consistent with, and in furtherance of, a religious purpose" to qualify for the exemption under the proposed rule, according to an OFCCP Federal Register filing.
