In the latest challenge involving addressing the needs of the homeless population in Lafayette, an encampment of homeless people at Catholic Charities of Acadiana’s St. John Street campus was broken up Thursday morning. There was not an immediate place for them to turn in Lafayette. Acadiana has lost 40% of its emergency shelter beds over the last three years, a Catholic Charities spokesman said.
