Lake Maurepas carbon capture project could die under this bill

By Jessica Williams | Capitol News Bureau Editor

Carbon capture: A state House committee on Tuesday advanced a bill that could kill plans for a controversial carbon capture project under Lake Maurepas, Sam Karlin reports. But the panel also shot down bills to hinder similar projects and give residents a say in whether carbon dioxide is stored in their parishes.

Transgender care: Another House panel advanced a bill that would ban gender-affirming care for transgender youth in Louisiana, over furious objections from opponents. The bill is one of several filed this session that affect the rights of LGBTQ+ residents.

Film industry: Tax breaks film companies receive for doing business in Louisiana would be extended for another decade under a bill that cleared a House committee Monday, Tyler Bridges reports. But the tax credit, which has been controversial, would become less lucrative for companies over time.
