Thousands still snubbing Covid jab in the city
View email online | | | | | Sep 17, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening In case you’ve missed it, Lancashire is in the international and national spotlight this weekend thanks to Chorley MP and Speaker of the House Sir Lindsay Hoyle. In a stroke of genius, he has chosen to bring all the most influential speakers in the world to his home constituency of Chorley - including the US’s Nancy Pelosi - where he is proudly showing off everything Lancashire, from produce to people. Yesterday I bumped into him at a radio broadcast and you’d be hard-pressed to know this is a man with considerable political weight on his shoulders as he waved to me enthusiastically as I made my way into Chorley market, where the broadcast was being held. Yes - he’s a party politician - but no that’s not why he’s popular - he’s just a nice bloke, unless you happen to cross him in the House of Commons when his steel is clear. What he’s pulled off this weekend is remarkable for Lancashire as a whole, a county many of these far flung international politicians have probably never heard of. And as the red arrows fly over the skies this weekend, we are certainly on the map. Meanwhile I look forward to pictures of Nancy Pelosi with a stick of Blackpool Rock and a Chorley cake. Have a lovely weekend.
