🥶 Temperatures will moderate into the 20s by Wednesday afternoon

❄️ Thursday brings one more temperature speed bump with highs in the teens. Temperatures will return to the seasonable 20s for most of Minnesota from Friday through Sunday.

Snow, ice and heavy cloud cover aren’t ideal conditions to take off or land an airplane, but they’re business as usual for pilots who fly through the winter out of the U.S. Forest Service seaplane base in Ely — the only Forest Service seaplane base in the country.
 
After 100 years of waiting, a Latino Museum is proposed for St. Paul

The Minnesota Latino Leadership Alliance (MiLLA) is advocating for a proposed Minnesota Latino Museum, aiming to raise $20 million for a cultural center in St. Paul’s historic West Side Flats, with hopes to open by 2029 to celebrate and preserve Latino arts, heritage and community.
🏛️ House Democrats stick to work closer to home as row with Republicans persists at Minnesota Capitol. Democrats in the Minnesota House are boycotting the Capitol over a disagreement about the power Republicans should hold given a temporary advantage there. They’re doing events in their districts instead.

✈️ Could winter-hardy crops fuel airline flights of the future? U of M researchers think it’s possible. Researchers at the University of Minnesota have been studying winter oilseed crops that can be turned into sustainable aviation fuel and provide other environmental benefits. Interest in SAF has been on the rise as the airline industry looks to reduce its carbon emissions.

🏡 First phase of Mankato’s supportive housing project receives $7.2 million state grant. Mankato is one of many communities around Minnesota facing challenges as people experience chronic homelessness. One barrier is the lack of affordable housing, but there are continuing efforts moving unhoused people into permanent supportive housing.

📝 Pete Hegseth’s former sister-in-law alleges abuse against second wife in affidavit to Senate. Senators vetting the nomination of Minnesotan Pete Hegseth for defense secretary received an affidavit Tuesday from a former sister-in-law alleging that the onetime Fox News host was abusive to his second wife, to the point where she feared for her safety. Hegseth denies the allegations.

🥶 Photos: Twin Cities see their coldest morning since Valentine’s Day 2021. Temperatures dipped to -19 degrees at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, making it the coldest morning there in almost four years.

🌿 Over $600K worth of illicit cannabis found in Minnesota marijuana stores in 2024. According to a 2025 report by the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM), the agency found more than 199 lbs of illicit cannabis flower at 134 sites from January to October of 2024.

🏒 Minnesota hockey legend Willard Ikola dies at age 92. Ikola started playing hockey at a young age while growing up in Eveleth on the Iron Range. He was in goal as Eveleth High School won consecutive state titles in 1948, 1949 and 1950 — his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.

🧑‍⚖️ Minnesota and other states sue to stop Trump's order blocking birthright citizenship. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said in a statement he will use the power of his office and the law to bring suit to stop what he called  an “unprecedented, blatant breach of the Constitution by a President.”

🚓 Two dead in two shootings in south Minneapolis. Minneapolis police Chief Brian O’Hara said investigators are working to determine whether the two shootings are related.

❌ Twin Cities restaurant Revival abruptly closes all locations. The fried chicken and barbecue restaurant shuttered its locations in Minneapolis, St. Paul and St. Louis Park. It also closed its location in the Market at Malcolm Yards food hall in Minneapolis.

🎧  Refugees set to resettle in Minnesota next month now barred entry after Trump order.
Among the flurry of executive orders from President Donald Trump on day one, was an order to temporarily suspend all refugee resettlement. Minnesota has seen a surge of refugees in recent years. The latest state data from 2023 shows Minnesota welcomed an estimated 2,000 refugees.
