Landry touts new 'pro-business' era with signing of tax reform package

BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer

Pledging to give Louisiana residents "an economy that they can flourish in," Gov. Jeff Landry on Thursday signed several bills in the package of tax legislation that he helped negotiate during the two-week special session last month. The new laws are aimed at attracting businesses and improving Louisiana’s tax policy woes.

“It’s an era that’s gonna create a pro-business environment. It’s an era that’s going to usher Louisiana into a new industrial South,” Landry said during a news conference.

The final tax package fell short of the governor's initial plan, which could signal the possibility of continued tax policy adjustments during the upcoming regular session.

Local leaders are questioning the legality of the enforcement initiative, but Constable Ron Tetzel maintains the entire operation was legal and said some of the criticism of his office amounts to "slanderous lies." He has agreed to suspend the program.
